Blue Mountains Reclaim the Night 2025

Each year, BMWHRC brings together the Blue Mountains Coalition Against Violence & Abuse (CAVA) to take action against violence in our community.

Reclaim the Night is one of CAVA’s most powerful annual events giving locals a chance to come together and take a stand against gender-based violence.

Join us this year in Springwood, outside 'The Hub', for community stalls, free food, and activities from 3 pm, followed by our rally and march kicking off at 5 pm.

Historical Importance:

"Reclaim the Night" is a global movement originating from a Brussels women's Tribunal in 1976, with the first marches occurring in Europe in 1977, partly in response to serial killer Peter Sutcliffe ("The Yorkshire Ripper") and the police urging women to stay indoors. The first Reclaim the Night march in Australia was held in Sydney and Perth in 1978, and the annual event continues today to protest sexual and gender-based violence, advocating for a world where everyone can walk freely and safely at night.
