Blue Mountains Reclaim the Night 2026

Reclaim the Night is a community protest and call to action against gender-based violence. The event brings together victim-survivors, advocates, community members and organisations to raise awareness, empower those impacted by violence, and advocate for safer communities for women, girls and gender-diverse people.

Reclaim the Night is part of a long-standing international movement that began in the 1970s, with communities around the world gathering to challenge violence against women and demand the right to live, work and move freely without fear. Today, Reclaim the Night remains an important opportunity to honour victim-survivors, raise public awareness and call for collective action to end gender-based violence.

In the Blue Mountains, Reclaim the Night is coordinated by the Blue Mountains Coalition Against Violence and Abuse (CAVA). Convened by the Blue Mountains Women's Health & Resource Centre, CAVA brings together local organisations and community members committed to preventing domestic, family and sexual violence and creating a safer community for everyone. Through initiatives such as Reclaim the Night, the Blue Mountains Mayoral Breakfast and 16 Days of Activism, CAVA works to increase awareness, promote community action and advocate for lasting social change. The coalition recognises that children are also victim-survivors of gender-based violence and takes a collaborative approach to preventing violence and supporting those affected.

Reclaim the Night is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with victim-survivors, remember those whose lives have been impacted by violence, and send a clear message that violence against women, children and gender-diverse people will not be tolerated in our communities.
