Bukae: Survivor’s Walk for Justice

Content note: This film discusses conflict-related sexual violence during the Indonesian occupation of Timor-Leste. Blue Mountains East Timor Sisters (BMETS) invites you to a screening of Bukae: Survivor's Walk for Justice on Sunday 9 August, with arrival from 1.30 pm for a 2.00 pm screening at the Seminar Room, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Katoomba. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with film producer and human rights advocate Galuh Wandita. Bukae tells the powerful story of women who survived conflict-related sexual violence during the Indonesian occupation of Timor-Leste and who continue to seek recognition, justice and acknowledgement. The film highlights both the devastating impact of war on women and the extraordinary courage, resilience and leadership of those who have continued to advocate for truth and healing. For more than 20 years, BMETS has worked in partnership with women and children in Timor-Leste. Over the past decade, BMETS has supported the women featured in the film through its partnership with local organisation AcBit, helping to strengthen community connection, economic participation and opportunities for women, alongside AcBit's trauma counselling and advocacy. Hosted by BMETS in partnership with the Blue Mountains Women's Health and Resource Centre, this free community event includes afternoon tea.
